A customer's one comment about my masking tape changed my whole process

Last month in Sacramento, a customer watched me tape off her 2018 Civic and said 'you know that gap line is going to show through, right?' I was sure my overlaps were fine. Turns out she was right, the paint edge left a faint ridge after I pulled the tape. Now I use a two tape method, one layer for the base and one for the edge, costs me an extra 4 minutes per car. Has anyone else had a customer spot something you did for years without noticing?

Three years ago I had a customer point out that my filler work had a slight low spot on their fender that I had totally missed, I had been doing it that way since I started in 2016. That one comment messed with my head for weeks because I kept second guessing every panel I repaired after that. It is humbling when someone who has never done the work sees something you have been staring at for years, but sometimes fresh eyes just catch what we train ourselves to ignore. I switched to a different block sanding method after that and it added about ten minutes to my prep work, but the finish is way more level now. Your two tape trick sounds solid, and honestly that extra four minutes is nothing compared to having to redo a paint job or explain a ridge to an unhappy customer. Some of the best lessons come from people who are just watching, not even trying to help, and that is wild to think about.
