Chat with an old timer made me rethink how I mix paint
I was helping a guy about 70 years old with his Dodge pickup last Tuesday. He watched me grab a can of premixed single stage and said 'you kids don't even know how to shoot lacquer anymore.' It got me thinking about how much the process has changed since the 80s when they had to mix everything by hand with no VOC regulations. He showed me a photo of his shop from 1987 and it was just a mess of spray cans and no filtration. Made me wonder if I'm too reliant on modern convenience stuff like my paint mixing system. Does anyone else feel like we lost some skill along the way?

Did you find yourself wanting to try mixing your own paint after hearing his stories?

Modern mixing systems save time and cut waste, that's just progress.

Did you ever try one of those mixing machines they have at the big hardware stores? I used one at a local shop and it saved me from guessing ratios, plus the cleanup was a breeze. I stuck with it since the waste went way down compared to my hand mixing.
