Had a painter chew me out over my sanding technique last month
Old timer named Dave stopped by my shop. Saw me using a DA sander on some filler work. He said I was going too fast and skipping grits. Told me to hand sand the primer with 400 before any paint. I tried it on a fender repair. The orange peel disappeared. Now I finish every job that way. Anyone else get told to slow down on sanding?

Got a guy named Sal who taught me the same thing about 10 years ago. He'd watch me sand and just shake his head until I slowed down. Now I do 180 dry, 320 wet, then 400 wet before color. Adds time but saves the headache of buffing out peel later.
