My $120 'dent puller' kit turned out to be a glorified glue gun for my truck's hood

I saw this online ad for a professional dent removal kit and figured it'd save me a trip to the shop for a small ding. The kit had these glue tabs you melt on with a special gun, then you screw a puller into the tab. I followed the steps on my F-150's hood, and when I pulled, the tab just ripped off, taking a perfect circle of factory paint with it. Now I have a tiny dent and a quarter-sized bald spot that needs a full repaint. Has anyone actually had a good result with one of these glue pull systems, or are they all just a fast track to making more work?

It's like @wood.uma said, everything's just cheap glue and big promises now lol.

Wait, did you heat the glue tab enough before pulling? I had a similar kit and it worked fine on my door once I really cooked that adhesive good and hot. Maybe @wood.uma got a bad batch, but the trick is getting the metal and glue super hot so it bonds deep, not just to the paint. If you pull too soon or too cold, it'll just grab the top layer and rip it right off.

Total scam, they never work on factory paint. You just learned the expensive way.

Heat the metal until it's almost too hot to touch. That melts the factory clear coat into the glue. Anything less and you're just pulling up paint.
