My neighbor, a retired mechanic, said 'the new clear coats are designed to fail so you'll bring the car back in 5 years' and it made me rethink every warranty claim I've processed.

Has anyone else had a customer repeat a line like that, and how do you handle it when you know the real issue is often improper prep or environmental damage?

Ever see @emma455's perfect paint job? That's proof it's the work, not the warranty.

Man, I used to roll my eyes at that stuff. Then I saw a car we painted five years ago still looking perfect next to one from a quick-shop that was peeling in two. The difference was insane. It was all in the sanding and the primer, not some secret timer in the paint. Now when I hear that line, I just explain how much work a lasting finish actually takes.

Yeah, the secret timer's in the prep work.
