Was dead set against 2K clear until I messed up a pearl job last month

Had to strip a whole trunk because the single stage yellowed on me, a buddy told me to just try the 2K and I haven't looked back. Has anyone else had better luck with it on metallics?

I mean... "dead set against 2K clear" sounds like the sort of thing a guy at the shop would say to make himself sound more serious than it really is. Unless you're painting a show car or something, most people are never going to notice a little yellowing on a trunk. I've been using single stage on my old truck for years and it's fine, just a bit of wax every few months. Maybe it's just me but I wouldn't go stripping a whole job over it unless it was like, super bad or something.

Nah, I gotta push back on that. Look, I was in the exact same boat - swore by single stage for years, thought clear was just extra work for no reason. But once you actually see a pearl or metallic job under different lighting with that single stage finish, the difference is night and day. That yellowing thing is real too, it's not just some show car snobbery. Metallic flake sits different under clear, it pops way more and doesn't get that muddy look as it ages. If you're doing a trunk on a modern car with metallic paint, stripping and redoing it is cheaper in the long run than having someone come back in six months asking why their trunk doesn't match the rest of the car. I'll take the extra step every time for metallics now, it's just a better product for that application.

Nah, single stage works fine for daily drivers without metallic flake.
