A rep at a parts store in Boise told me rebuilt alternators fail 3x more often than new ones
I always figured a rebuild was basically the same thing for half the price, but he pulled up the return rates on his screen and it wasn't close. Anyone here actually had good luck running rebuilt alternators long term, or is new just the way to go?
This is just how everything works now. You get the cheap version and it lasts half as long, so you end up buying it twice anyway. Same deal with phone chargers, same with boots, same with those cheap printer ink cartridges that dry up in a month. The store knows the rebuild will come back, and they still sell it to you, because a return is just another sale later. Half price sounds good until you're doing the job two or three times.
