Appreciation post: the old timer in Cleveland who made me redo a brake job twice
Back when I was a fresh tech at a shop off West 25th in Cleveland, an older guy named Ray had me do the rear brakes on his pickup three times before he would pay. First pass I just slapped pads on and called it done, and he walked out to the bay, looked at the rotors, and said "son, those ain't even cleaned up." Second time I turned the rotors but left the hardware dry, and he pointed at the slides and asked me if I wanted his daughter driving it. Third time I did the whole job right, cleaned and greased everything, and he shook my hand and paid without a word. That was around 2009 and I still hear his voice when I rush a brake job. He never yelled, he just stood there patient until I got it. Any of you have an old customer who taught you more than any class did?
