Blew a head gasket on a 2002 Civic in my driveway last Sunday

I was just doing a routine oil change on my buddy's old Civic and noticed milky stuff under the cap. Pulled the dipstick and it looked like a chocolate milkshake. Anyone dealt with a head gasket on a D17 before and know if it's worth fixing or should I just look for a junkyard motor?

Oh man, that milkshake dipstick is never a good sign! I've been there too on an old car and it's like the engine is telling you it's time for a break.

I read somewhere that milkshake oil means a blown head gasket. Not cheap to fix.

Did the car show any other symptoms before the dipstick looked like that? Sometimes you get overheating or white smoke out the tailpipe first, but I've also seen them just start running rough with no warning lol. What engine was it on if you don't mind me asking? Some are way easier to fix than others.
