Can we talk about how the torque plate story at the Boise trade night flipped my view on break-in?
Last month I went to a trade night at a parts house in Boise, and an old engine builder showed me his torque plate setup for a small block. He said his rings seated in about 30 minutes on the dyno instead of the usual couple hours, and he had a logbook of 12 builds to back it up. I used to think torque plates were just something race guys wasted money on, but seeing his hone marks and the wear pattern made me second guess that. Now I'm wondering how many of you actually use one on a normal rebuild, and if so, what kind of hone and ring combo do you pair it with?
