Chose an impact wrench over a breaker bar for a rusted axle nut in Chicago, and the socket cracked at 300 ft-lbs

Finally got the nut off after soaking it in Kroil for 2 days, but the chrome socket split right down the side. Anyone else had better luck with impact-rated sockets on rust belt cars, or do you just torch them off?
