DOT 5 fluid ate through my clutch master seal in 3 months

Swapped a customer's hydraulic clutch to DOT 5 silicone fluid last spring because they wanted better boiling point. Did not realize the old seal was not rated for silicone-based fluid. By July the pedal went soft and the master cylinder was leaking onto the bellhousing. Took it apart and the seal had swollen and split clean in half. Check your part numbers before you switch fluid types, the spec sheets actually matter more than the marketing. Anyone else run into seals failing after a fluid upgrade?

Wait, the seal actually split clean in half? That's wild.
