Finally got that stubborn 2008 Civic crank pulley bolt off after two days of trying

I was stuck between trying a longer breaker bar with a pipe or just renting the specific Honda crank pulley holder tool for $50. Went with the tool, and it came loose in about five minutes with no drama. Anyone have a cheaper trick for these that doesn't risk breaking something?

Ever try the starter bump method? I used to think it was sketchy, but it saved me on my old Accord.

Saved me" is a stretch, @grantpatel. That method can wreck your starter motor or send the car lurching forward. It's a good way to turn a small problem into a big, expensive one.

My buddy's old Civic died at a gas station once, we tried the bump start on a slight hill near his place. It actually worked after like three tries, got the engine to catch and we drove it home fine. But I get what you're saying, I've seen a guy do it wrong and his car just jerked forward then stalled out again real bad. The key is having a decent slope and not rushing it, letting the clutch out slow so you don't shock the whole drivetrain. Still a sketchy move for sure, but sometimes you gotta do what works when you're stuck.

Oh yeah, @grantpatel, I got my dad's old truck home that way once. Felt risky but it worked in a pinch.
