My snap-on torque wrench calibration was off by 15 foot-pounds

Happened last Thursday on a Ford 6.7 head gasket job. Everyone says you can trust the click, but mine clicked way early. I had to redo eight bolts after checking with a different wrench. Has anyone else found a big difference between their main wrench and a backup?

How old is that wrench? I had a similar scare last year with my old one. The spring inside can get tired, especially if you leave it set high all the time. Fifteen pounds is a huge margin on something like head bolts. I don't trust just one click anymore, I always double check critical stuff with a beam type now. It's a pain but cheaper than a comeback.

Wait, so the spring gets tired? Is that like when my will to live gets tired on a Monday? Good call on the double check though, @adams.vera, I'm gonna start doing that too.

Fifteen pounds sounds bad but how often does it really matter. Most stuff has a torque range anyway, not a single number. I bet half the cars on the road have bolts torqued with wrenches that are off by a few pounds and they run fine for years. People act like it's a science project but it's just turning a bolt until it's tight enough.
