My uncle swore I could fix a blown head gasket with egg whites
Tried it on my 98 Civic after he said it'd buy me two weeks, ended up with scrambled eggs in my radiator and a tow bill from the lot off I-10. Anyone else get punked by a weird family hack?

Learned that lesson the hard way myself years ago. Old tricks sometimes just make a bigger mess.

What makes you say that though? Some old tricks are old for a reason - they actually work. I've been using the same method for getting burnt stuff off pans for years. Soaking in hot water with baking soda, never fails. Modern cleaners strip the seasoning off my cast iron.

Both learned that baking soda secret the HARD way" - oh man, I gotta hear this story. What happened, did it turn into some kind of volcano situation? I tried using baking soda once to clean out my coffee pot and ended up with foam everywhere, like a science experiment gone wrong. Still don't trust the stuff in my kitchen after that mess. Makes me wonder if there's a right and a wrong way to use it, or if some of us just have bad luck with it.
