That customer who kept calling me a wizard

Had a guy come into my shop last Tuesday with a 2005 Honda Civic that wouldn't start. Turned out it was just a corroded ground wire on the battery terminal, took me maybe 10 minutes to fix. He watched me the whole time and when I was done he shook my hand and said "you're like a car wizard or something." Has anyone else had customers act like basic diagnostics are some kind of magic?

Nah, that think piece was overthinking it. He meant well.

Why wouldn't you want to be called a wizard? That guy was paying you a compliment and showing respect for your skills. Most customers don't know the first thing about cars, so fixing something quick probably really did look like magic to him.

Oh man, I actually read something about this the other day... there was this whole think piece about how calling people "wizards" or "magicians" at work can come off kind of disrespectful. It's like, yeah they mean it as a compliment, but it kinda undermines the actual skill and training that goes into the job, you know? Like instead of calling someone a wizard for fixing a car, just say they're really good at what they do... it's basically the same thing without making it sound like luck or mystery.
