That 'replace the master cylinder' advice everyone gives is often wrong
I keep reading on here that if your brake pedal goes to the floor, you need a new master cylinder. Last month my F-150 did exactly that, no leaks anywhere. Before I dropped $150 on a new one I decided to bench bleed the old one first. Took maybe 45 minutes and the pedal firmed right back up. The seals were just dry from sitting for 6 months while I did engine work. Has anyone else fixed a soft pedal without replacing parts?

Troubleshooting first has become a lost art everywhere, not just with brakes. People swap out whole parts when the cheap fix is just cleaning or adjusting something. That same mindset shows up with lawnmowers that just need a carb clean or AC units that need a filter change. We all want the fast solution, but spending 45 minutes with a wrench and some fluid beats spending an afternoon at the parts store. Glad the bench bleed worked, it's proof that patience still has a place in a throwaway world.
