The 400 dollar torque wrench that lied to me on a lower control arm

So yesterday I'm torquing down this control arm bolt on a Chevy Silverado, the spec calls for 148 ft-lbs. My Snap-on digital wrench clicks at 150, I feel good about it. Customer takes the truck out and comes back 20 minutes later with a clunking noise. Turns out the bolt was barely at 90, the wrench was reading right but the click mechanism was shot. I've had that thing for 6 years, never dropped it, always kept it in the case. Shop owner said to just buy another one, but I'm not shelling out 400 bucks again for the same brand if they can't handle basic use. Anyone else had a digital torque wrench just go bad without any warning signs? I'm thinking about switching to a split beam style instead.
