Tried to fix a squeak with WD-40, ended up choosing between a new belt or a new fan clutch

Spent an hour under my buddy's 2007 Silverado in Tucson spraying every pivot point I could find, and when the squeak turned into a full-on screech I had to decide between a $22 belt and a $180 clutch, picked the belt first, and now the fan sounds like a dying goose so I guess I'm buying the clutch anyway, anyone else ever chase a noise and end up replacing twice as much as planned?

Learned that lesson the hard way too, thought I could cheap out on the belt and it just masked the real issue for three days before the fan clutch grenaded on the highway. Now I just bite the bullet and replace the whole assembly first when something sounds off.

Grenaded" is the real lesson here, check the water pump too.
