Unpopular opinion: Reading dash light codes is a skill every mechanic should have

I just picked this up from a guy at the junkyard! It's way faster than hooking up a scanner for simple checks.

Oh man, that's so true. I used to keep a bent paperclip in my glovebox just to jump the OBD port and count the check engine light flashes.

Bobby pins work great for that in a pinch.

Totally agree! I've used @drewpatel's paperclip trick more times than I can count.
