Why did nobody tell me about brake pad shims sooner
I've been doing brakes for like 8 years now and always just slapped new pads in without paying much attention to the hardware. Last month I did a front pad job on a 2015 Civic in Columbus and the customer came back a week later with a squeal that was driving them nuts. I pulled it apart and the old shims were rusted to nothing, so I just left them out again. A buddy who works at a dealer saw me finishing up and asked why I wasn't using the anti-rattle clips and shims from the kit. I honestly said I never bothered. He showed me how they lock in and it took me maybe 20 minutes extra total. The noise is gone and the pedal feels way more solid. Has anyone else had that moment where you realize you skipped a step for years and feel kind of dumb about it? What was the part or process you finally got on board with?
