Worst day in the shop since I started at Mavis in Rochester

Last Tuesday I had a 2014 Ford Escape come in for a simple oil change and ended up fighting a stripped drain plug for 45 minutes. The kid before me must have used an impact on it, threads were totally gone. Then right after that a lady comes in screaming her brakes were grinding since Buffalo and I find the caliper pins welded shut with rust. Three jobs turned into an 8 hour nightmare. Anyone else have weeks where the universe just decides to test your patience?

Wonder if that stripped plug was from someone using the wrong oil grade and gunking things up.

Dang @mileslane, that's a solid point. Forgot people actually use the wrong oil grade sometimes. Like that would make a sludge mess and then they'd crank the plug too hard trying to torque it down. Could easily strip it out without even knowing.

Did anyone else ever strip a bolt so bad you just sat there staring at it like it insulted your family? I swear every time I see a Ford Escape from that era I just brace myself for the worst. One time I spent two hours on a drain plug that was basically just a smooth nub, and I kept thinking "maybe if I apologize to it it'll cooperate." But no, it just sat there mocking me while I dug out the extractor kit.
