Got burned by a cheap coil tester, lost half a day on a 737

Bought one of those generic $35 coil testers off Amazon and it read everything as good, even a mag that was clearly arcing out... cost me 4 hours chasing a ghost before I used the shop's old one and found it in 10 minutes. Anyone else had a cheap tester lead them down the wrong path?
