Lost my cup holder to a static discharge incident at PDX

Last month I was swapping out an antenna coupler on a CRJ at Portland. Ground crew was late with the static grounding wand so I figured I'd grab my coffee from the cart before I climbed up. Big mistake. Reached over the nav compartment and this static snap jumped from my hand to the rack, dead short on a connector. My coffee cup flew off the cart, landed in a bin of spare washers. 30 minutes re-testing everything because that zap could've fried a module. Now I keep my drink in the truck until the wand's attached, no exceptions. Does anyone else treat static like a personal grudge or am I just paranoid?

Ever tried clamping the grounding wire to your own belt loop before touching anything?
