Old timer showed me a better way to route wiring bundles

I had a 30 year veteran from Delta look over my harness install last month and he pointed out I was tying my bundles too tight. He said I was basically creating stress points that could crack the insulation over time. Now I leave a little more slack and use a different knot spacing every few inches. Has anyone else had to unlearn something a senior tech called out?

Same here, an old lineman showed me to zip tie loosely so the wire can breathe.

Tighten up a bit on that "different knot spacing every few inches" thing. He probably meant vary the spacing so they don't all line up, not literally use different knots each time. Same knot works fine, just stagger where you put em so the stress isn't all on one spot.

@fionafoster makes a good point about the spacing thing... it's more about staggering than using totally different knots. I notice this pattern pops up everywhere in life once you start looking for it. Like how people learn to cook from their grandma and then a real chef shows them their knife grip is all wrong or their seasoning habits are off. The same thing happens with how you load a dishwasher or even how you fold a fitted sheet... there's always somebody with more miles on the clock who sees the small stuff you're missing. That's the real value of old timers... they catch the habits you never even knew you had.
