That $40 harness tester from Harbor Freight surprised me big time
I've always laughed at their cheap tools, but last week I had a stubborn intermittent fault on a King radio install and that simple continuity tester with the LED buzz actually caught a broken pin 12 wire I'd rechecked twice with my multimeter. Wired it inline and cycled the harness while holding the connector, the light flickered right at the bend near the firewall. For under 50 bucks it's now living in my bag next to my good Fluke, I guess sometimes the cheap stuff earns its spot. Anyone else found random budget gear that out- performs the expensive kind for specific jobs?

The part about it flickering near the firewall bend is the real kicker. I had a similar thing with a cheap test light that only showed up when I wiggled the wire just right, which my meter never caught because it was too steady. Sometimes you need the tool that keeps the circuit live while you're messing with the harness, not just one that beeps once.

You're making a loose connection sound like brain surgery.
