The gray-haired guy at the Tulsa hangar taught me more about wire routing in 20 minutes than my whole A&P program did
I was reinstalling a bundle behind the panel on a King Air last month and this old timer named Ray stopped and watched me for a minute. He asked why I was zip-tying every 3 inches and said 'son, let them breathe or the chafe will eat you alive,' then showed me his 2-finger gap rule he learned working C-130s back in the day. I tried it on the next 6 runs and the bundle sits way cleaner around the avionics rack. Anyone else pick up tricks like that from the old heads instead of the manuals?
That "let them breathe" line is real, had a guy show me the same thing on a 172 panel and it killed so many random com issues I was chasing. Guess the manuals never bothered to mention that wires don't like being strangled.
