Most techs trust the diagnostic suite first. I've found visual checks often spot corrosion or chafing before it flags on screen.

My buddy's car kept throwing a code, but the fix was just a cracked vacuum hose you could only see by looking under the hood.

Found a loose connector under the dash once that did the same thing.
