When our hangar went from paper gripe sheets to iPads, a 3 week change that split the crew
Three weeks ago our lead handed out iPads and killed the paper gripe sheets we had taped to the bench for years. First week was a mess. Guys were standing around waiting on Wi-Fi in the hangar instead of just writing the squawk down, and two write-ups got logged twice because nobody trusted the sync. By week three though I noticed something odd, our turnaround on deferred items dropped because the parts guy could see the notes the second we typed them instead of waiting for me to walk the clipboard over. One side of the crew says this is long overdue and we should have done it years ago, the other half swears we move slower now and one guy keeps a secret paper pad in his toolbox because he does not trust the tablet to save. I get both sides. The search on old squawks alone saved me an hour last Tuesday tracking down a repeat issue on a comm radio. But I also had the screen go dark on me in the middle of signing off a repair, and that never happens with a pen. So I am curious, for those of you who made the switch, did it stick or did you end up going back to paper?
