I wasted $75 on a fancy silicone baking mat that ended up being junk

I bought this expensive silicone mat from a kitchen supply store in Denver six months ago, thinking it would save me money on parchment paper for my cookies and bread. After maybe 10 uses, the edges started curling up and it slid around on my sheet pans like crazy. Last week I baked a batch of sugar cookies and the mat actually melted a bit on one corner, ruined the whole batch. I reached out to the company and they said it was user error because I heated it above 400 degrees, which is a joke since most cookie recipes call for 375 or 425. So now I'm out $75 and back to using parchment paper that costs like $3 a roll. Has anyone else had bad luck with these silicone baking mats or did I just pick a cheap brand?

Nah I gotta disagree a little lol. I've had a Silpat for like 4 years now and it's still flat as a board, never had any melting issues. Sounds like you maybe got a knockoff brand or something, not all silicone mats are made the same.

violag80's got a point about brands being different. I picked up a cheaper one off Amazon once and it started sliding around after a month. The edges curled up just like yours and it left weird marks on my cookies. Ended up tossing it and going back to parchment paper too, which is way less hassle honestly.

That's how it always goes with the "premium" version of something, you pay extra for hype not quality.
