My stand mixer threw a gear last night during cookie prep

Tbh I was right in the middle of making a triple batch of sugar cookies for a church bake sale when my KitchenAid started making this grinding noise. Then it just stopped spinning altogether. I popped off the top cover and found a broken plastic gear with metal shavings everywhere. I ordered a replacement worm gear set for like 15 bucks online and watched a youtube repair video. Has anyone else had this plastic gear issue or did I just push mine too hard?

My friend's lasted years before that exact same thing happened.

Sorry to hear about your friend's experience, that stinks. It's one of those things where it's great when it works but when it finally goes, it's a real pain. Hope they were able to get it sorted out without too much hassle.
