So my sister told me my cake layers were too dry and I'm still mad about it
She said I was overmixing because I treat the stand mixer like a race car, and honestly she was right. I slowed way down and started hand-folding the last bit of flour, and now my vanilla cake doesn't crumble into dust. Has anyone else had a family member just roast your baking and accidentally fix your whole process?

Wow, I gotta disagree - sometimes a little tough love from family just saves you hours of guessing.

Girl, the real issue here is that your sister cared enough to actually taste your cake and give you feedback instead of just smiling and letting you keep serving dry cake to everyone. That kind of honesty is rare and honestly it's a gift. Now you're making better cakes and she probably saved you from bringing a crumbly mess to the next family gathering. That's not just tough love, that's her doing the hard work of telling you the truth so you could level up. I'd be mad too if someone called me out but it sounds like you both won in the end.

Remember when my cousin told me my chili tasted like "spicy disappointment" at the family BBQ last summer? I was so mad I didn't talk to her for two weeks, but now I'm the go-to chili person at every gathering. Sometimes family calls you out because they actually want you to get better, even if it hurts your feelings in the moment.
