Tried a sourdough starter with tap water in Austin, total disaster

Honestly, I moved to Austin last month and figured my starter would be fine with the local tap water. Big mistake, after 4 days it turned gray and smelled like old gym socks. I switched to filtered water from the jug at HEB and it came back to life in 48 hours. Anyone else deal with chlorine wrecking their starter when they move?

Same thing happened to me after moving here, the gray blob smell is all too familiar. Filtered water fixed mine too.
