Vent: spent $40 on those 'oven safe' silicone baking mats that curled up in a 425 degree oven
Watched the edges fold over my cookies like a taco at 425 in my apartment in Denver, and now I'm out 40 bucks plus a batch of dough. Anybody found mats that actually hold flat at high heat, or should I just go back to parchment?
Saw a baking blog post about this exact problem and the person said silicone mats are only rated up to 425 but most of them start warping way before that. That taco thing happens because the mats get too soft and the oven rack heat hits them uneven. I switched back to parchment after my second set curled and honestly my cookies come out the same. If you really want a mat, look for one that says fiberglass mesh inside, those hold flat way better.
