My $15 red light bulb experiment made my evenings way calmer
I kept seeing people talk about red light for sleep but never bought the fancy panels. Last week I grabbed a cheap red party bulb from the hardware store for 15 bucks and swapped it into my bedside lamp. I turn it on about an hour before the kids go down, and I swear the whole room feels different somehow. Not like a miracle cure, but I stop reaching for my phone and we actually wind down instead of fighting the usual bedtime battle. Three nights in a row now I have fallen asleep faster, which never happens for me. I know it could be placebo, but at that price it's worth keeping. Has anyone else tried the low cost version before spending real money on the expensive setups?

@young.thomas I get what you're saying about the dimness doing the work, but I actually don't see it that way. My red bulb is still pretty bright, I can read fine with it on, so it's not just forcing me to stop stuff. For me, the color itself changes how my brain feels, like it's signaling the whole room to slow down even if I'm still doing things. Plus my phone screen is way brighter than any bulb and that never stopped me before, so I think there's something real about the red light specifically. Not saying you're wrong, just that my experience lines up more with the color mattering than just the brightness.

Is it possible the dimmer light is the real hero here, since most party bulbs aren't that bright? I noticed when I tried a red bulb that it basically forced me to stop doing detailed stuff like reading or fixing things, which made my brain switch off faster too. Either way, you found a cheap trick that works for your evenings, and that's all that matters.
