My work buddy swore by a sauna blanket for 6 months before I called him out

I read that sauna blankets are basically just heated sleeping bags, not actual steam saunas. A guy in my fitness group used one for months and said it just made him sweat buckets but didn't help him recover like he hoped. The whole thing sounds like a gimmick if your friend fell for it for half a year.

Well actually, real sauna blankets do get properly hot, it's just dry heat not steam. I have one from HigherDOSE and the thing goes up to 158F, which is definitely more than just a heated sleeping bag. The recovery part depends a lot on what you're expecting, I use mine after long runs and it helps me relax and sleep better, but it won't fix muscle tears or anything like that. Your friend's guy probably expected too much from it, the main benefit is just the sweat and feeling calm afterwards.

Nah I gotta disagree here @tessap73. Your guy probably had unrealistic expectations but calling it a gimmick is harsh. Sauna blankets are just dry heat like the other person said. They work for what they are. You just gotta know they aren't magic. Sweating buckets is the whole point. That can help some people relax and flush out junk. But yeah if someone thinks it'll fix muscle tears or replace actual rest then they're setting themselves up for disappointment. I think the problem is people hype up anything new like a cure all. Sauna blankets are solid for relaxing and feeling good after a workout but they aren't a replacement for proper recovery like stretching or foam rolling. Your friend might have just needed to pair it with other stuff.
