Had to choose between a coal forge and a propane one

Picked the propane forge for my garage setup in Raleigh because I didn't want to deal with smoke and ash indoors. After 6 months, it works fine but I miss that even heat you get with coal for certain blades. Anyone else made the switch and regret it or love it?

I mean idk, coal forges get even hotter too but propane is way cleaner.

Got tired of messing with coal and switched to propane last year. Best move I made for my setup, way less cleanup too.

That "way less cleanup" part is what gets me. I've noticed this same pattern EVERYWHERE now, not just in forges. People are swapping out the old messy way of doing things for something that just works cleaner and simpler. My neighbor spent YEARS fighting with his woodstove, hauling logs, cleaning out ash, and now he's got a pellet stove and he's mad he didn't do it sooner. It's like we all get stuck in the routine of the hard way until something finally pushes us to try the easy way and we realize what we were missing.

Yeah the even heat thing is real, coal just hits different for some steels lol.
