Never thought I'd say this but hand filing beats power grinding for fine edges

Spent a whole afternoon last Wednesday cleaning up a chipped kitchen knife with a file instead of my usual bench grinder and the finish came out so clean I'm actually considering selling the grinder.

Yeah the chatter was worse on the tip for sure, but I found going extra slow and keeping the file almost flat on the belly helped smooth it out once I got the rhythm down. Changing angles a little bit between sections kept the finish consistent without much hassle.

Holding onto the grinder still though, or is it gone for good? I find that with really hard steels a file can chatter worse than a grinder if I'm not careful, did you have that problem on the tip of the knife or just on the thicker belly part? Curious if you had to change your angle a lot between different parts of the blade or if it was all pretty smooth once you got going.
