Old timer told me to quench in warm oil not cold oil

I was using room temp canola for years until a guy at a hammer-in near Toledo said heat it to 130F first and now my blades come out way harder after 3 tries.

Hot canola worked better for me after a buddy said to use motor oil at 140F instead.

Hope your buddy isn't the one helping change your oil too.

140F is way too hot for canola oil honestly, @charles_baker28, that's getting close to its smoke point. Smoke point for canola is around 400F so it's fine, but motor oil at that temp sounds sketchy for any food use. I'd stick with something tested for cooking if you're gonna reuse it.
