Was dead set against using a power hammer until I tried one at a demo last month
Always thought power hammers took the skill out of the craft, but this guy in Ohio let me run his 25lb Little Giant for 5 minutes. The control you actually have is wild, I drew out a 1 inch bar into a taper in like 3 strikes. Has anyone else gone from hating power hammers to owning one?

And the thing nobody mentions is how they actually save your hands and wrists from long term damage... I know three old school smiths who have arthritis so bad they can hardly grip a hammer anymore.

yeah but how bad does it have to get before someone switches? like i know a farrier in his 40s whos already got the start of carpal tunnel and he just says "thats the job" and keeps going. do these guys really just hammer through the pain until their hands lock up or do they eventually give in and try something else?

Man people act like every farrier ends up crippled by 50 but I know dudes in their 60s still doing it fine lol.
