Can we talk about how my $180 office chair died in 5 months and the guy at the repair shop said I'm the problem
Honestly I bought this mesh back chair in January and by June the gas lift was shot and one armrest was cracking off. I dragged it to a guy on Delancey St who fixes office chairs out of his garage, and he took one look and said 'you lean back like you're mad at it, that's why the cylinder blew.' Ngl I laughed at first but then he showed me the metal plate where the base attaches and it was all bent in one direction. Tbh I never thought about how I sit being the reason stuff breaks, I just assumed the chair was junk. Has anyone else had a repair guy blame them for the damage and were they actually right?

The repair guy said you "lean back like you're mad at it" and honestly that sounds like a cop out to me. A $180 chair should hold up longer than 5 months no matter how you sit in it. Office chairs are built to take daily use by regular people who slouch and lean, that's literally the whole point of them. If a gas cylinder blows that fast, that's cheap parts failing, not some rare thing you did that no chair can handle. Dude fixes chairs in his garage so of course he's gonna blame you instead of admitting the chair was built like junk. Show me a chair that comes with a warning label about "leaning back too hard" and I'll believe him.
