I almost returned the $8 tube of Shoe Goo but it actually saved my $150 boots
About three months ago the sole on my left boot started peeling off right at the toe. They were $150 Red Wings I got in Columbus and I was sure they were done for, so I almost dropped them at a cobbler who quoted me $65 to glue them back. My brother said just try the $8 tube of Shoe Goo from the hardware store first. I figured it would peel off in a week because every glue I have ever tried on shoes gave up fast. I wiped the toe with rubbing alcohol, let it dry, put a thin layer on, and clamped it down with tape for a full day. That was late February and I have worn them maybe 40 times since, including a rainy walk to the bus. The bond has not budged at all, and I even did the other boot as a backup. Has anyone used this stuff on a bigger split, like where the whole sole is coming loose, or does it only hold for small spots?
