Overheard a 19 year old say "I don't even watch them, I just scroll" and that's been stuck in my head all week
Back in 2016 we shared clips because they were funny, now the clip is just bait to get you scrolling past 40 more. When did watching stop being the point?
Something I keep wondering about is whether the scrolling itself is even fun for them. Like, is that 19 year old enjoying those 40 clips, or is it just a numb thing they do with their thumb while waiting for something better? Because if the watching part stopped mattering, then what are they actually getting out of it? That feels like the real question hiding in what he said. Maybe the point isn't the videos at all anymore, it's just the motion, the next thing, the not stopping. And if that's true, when did we decide that was enough?
