PSA: The "mukbang ASMR chewing" trend finally broke me

I was scrolling through my feed last night and saw a girl just eating a giant bowl of noodles with her mouth open for 12 minutes straight. No talking. Just wet chewing sounds. 500k likes. My buddy Dave told me last week that these videos are actually therapeutic for people with eating disorders or anxiety. He said it helps them feel less alone at meals. I thought he was messing with me until I read the comments on that video. People saying it saved their relationship with food. I still think it sounds like a swamp monster eating crackers, but I guess if it helps someone, whatever. Has anyone else had a brain rot trend turn out to be secretly wholesome?

Oh wait, is that the same Dave? Because my Dave once told me kombucha was basically just "adult soda" and I'm still mad about that. But seriously, I clicked on one of those mukbang videos thinking I'd get 3 seconds of cringe and then close it, and instead I sat there for like 8 minutes watching a guy eat fried chicken while making these soft crinkle sounds. I felt so betrayed by my own brain. I tried to explain it to my roommate and she just stared at me like I was a cryptid.

Dave told me the same thing about ASMR videos for his anxiety. Ended up giving one a shot and it actually calmed me down way more than I expected.

Did you start getting weird cravings for fried chicken right after?
