TIL those '100 layers of nail polish' videos are actually fake

I used to skip past those satisfying nail polish stacking videos where someone paints like 100 layers on a single nail and then peels it off in one go. Looked cool (and honestly kinda mesmerizing) but I figured it was just some editing trick or silicone nail overlay. Then my cousin who does nails for a living in Austin showed me a bottle of something called 'peelable base coat' that makes the whole thing come off clean. She even did a quick demo on my pinky with 12 layers and it peeled like a sticker. Now I'm mad because I wasted like 30 minutes last week watching some dude do 200 layers of different shades of red when it's literally just a premade fake nail underneath. Has anyone else fallen for this and felt duped when they found out the trick?

Huh. I always figured those videos were legit. Thought the person just had insane patience and really steady hands. Never crossed my mind there was a whole product making it fake. Now I feel kinda stupid for being impressed honestly. It's like the food hack videos where they show some "life changing" trick but it's actually ruined eggs and a ton of waste. The peelable base coat explains everything though. Does make me wonder how many other "satisfying" videos are just tricks like that.

Told my sister the same thing last week @willowr96, she was ready to buy a whole rainbow of polishes to try it herself. The peelable base coat is the real game changer here, you can find it at any beauty supply store for like 5 bucks. Those 200 layer videos are pure clickbait though, they use a full fake nail with maybe 10 real coats on top then edit the rest in. Makes me wonder what other "satisfying" trends are just smoke and mirrors honestly. The peeling part is real enough, but the buildup is all fake it's disappointing when you think about it.
