Bus station lady in Lisbon taught me the bus pass trick

I was in Lisbon last March, trying to figure out the metro to get to Sintra. The ticket machine was confusing and I was about to buy a bunch of single rides. This older lady, maybe in her 60s, saw me struggling and just pointed at the Viva Viagem card and said 'this is for the whole day, same price as two rides'. She showed me how to tap it on the bus too. I ended up saving like 12 euros just that day because I hopped on three different buses and the train. Has anyone else got a local tip like that from a stranger that totally changed their transit budget?

That's cool she helped, but honestly the math only works out if you're doing more than two rides, most people I know just grab the day pass and waste it. The real rip off is tourists who buy single tickets without looking, but I'd rather overpay than chase a stranger around a bus station for directions.
