Hostel in Lisbon quoted me 30 euros a night, then wanted 45 at check-in
Showed up at the place in Alfama at 9pm and the guy at the desk said the 30 euro rate was only for the dorm, but I booked a private room, which he said was 45 now. I pulled up my booking email on my phone and just stood there reading it out loud to him. He dropped it back to 30 but only if I paid cash on the spot, no receipt. So do you eat the extra 15 euros for a paper trail, or take the cash deal and hope nothing goes wrong? I want to hear what people do when the desk guy changes the price on you at night.
Man, is 15 euros really worth the drama? You already got him to drop it back to 30, that's the win right there. Pay the 30 on your card, get your receipt, and sleep fine tonight. If he pushes back, you got the email on your phone, that's your proof. People act like every hostel desk guy is running some big scam, but half the time it's just laziness or bad notes in their system. Take the paper trail, it's 15 bucks, not your life savings.
