Hot take: I think packing only a carry-on is overrated for saving money
Lots of folks swear by packing light to avoid checked bag fees, but I've found that isn't always the smartest move. For longer trips, I need to buy essentials at my destination, which ends up costing more than a checked bag fee. Last year, I paid $30 for a checked bag but would have spent over $50 on sunscreen and extra clothes I forgot. Having my stuff with me means I don't waste vacation time shopping for things I already own. Plus, some budget airlines charge just as much for overweight carry-ons. Being able to pack properly has saved me stress and cash in the end.

Are we really debating suitcase choices this much?

I mean alice_allen5 has a point lol, it's just luggage. But I guess if it stops you from buying a bunch of junk you don't need, maybe it's not the worst debate.

Honestly you're missing the bigger picture with packing light. When I'm forced to only use a carry-on, I plan every outfit and don't buy random junk at my destination. Tbh not having the space stops me from wasting money on souvenirs or extra clothes I don't need. Last trip I saved way more by not checking a bag and avoiding all those little vacation impulse buys.

Totally get what you mean. My friend Jess went to Mexico with a huge checked bag last year, and she ended up filling it with so many cheap blankets and pottery from the markets, lmao. She said having all that empty space just made her feel like she had to buy stuff to fill it. Half that junk is still in her garage. When she flew with just a carry on to Chicago last month, she came back with like one t shirt because there was no room. She admitted it was way better for her wallet.
