I finally found why hostel lockers eat people's padlocks

Had a guy in Barcelona last week spend 20 minutes wrestling his TSA combo lock before I pointed out he was twisting the dial the wrong way and it was already open. The lock was fine, he was just fighting the release button instead of the shackle, and his face went bright red when the clerk laughed. Anyone else see travelers panic over locks that are literally already unlocked?

And here I thought all that panicking was just part of the hostel experience.

That third night in Prague, I watched a guy from our dorm sprint down the hallway in his boxers screaming about a spider. Turned out it was just a shadow from a streetlight. Hostel panic is REAL, but it's usually about bed bugs, not existential dread. The staff had to calm him down and explain the whole shadow thing. So yeah, I get your joke, but the actual panic is more about practical stuff like losing your key card or getting locked out at 2am.
