My cheap flight trick for Tokyo backfired a little, but I'm still glad I did it

I booked a flight to Tokyo with a 22-hour layover in Manila on purpose, thinking I'd just explore the city for free and save like $300. The problem was I landed at 11 PM, everything was closed, and I ended up sleeping on some airport chairs. On one hand, it was a rough night, but on the other, I did save that cash and got a wild story. Would you take a super long, awkward layover to save big money, or is a direct flight always worth the extra cost?

Always check the arrival time before booking a layover like that.

But what if you're just trying to get there and don't care about the wait?

How much did you actually save after airport food?
